Larian Studios, the folks behind the much-talked-about Baldur's Gate 3, have made it clear that their games, including the 2023's "Game of the Year" Baldur's Gate 3, won't be hopping onto any game subscription services. Swen Vincke, the founder and head honcho at Larian, spilled the beans on this at X. This announcement wasn't a one-liner; it kinda summed up a bunch of posts on the platform. It seemed like a response dance to Philippe Tremblay, Ubisoft's subscription bigwig, who recently suggested that gamers better cozy up to the idea of subscribing to play games. Not everyone's nodding along to the future where everyone has to sign up for a game subscription service, and Vincke is now one of those who've spoken up. Makes sense, right? He's pointing out the obvious – that games with real quality might take a hit in a world where subscription models rule the roost, and a small crew from the subscription service gets to decide what hits the market and what doesn't. Food for thought, huh?
